Emily Welch Shockley, 82, of Goldsboro passed away on June 4, 2026 at Caroline Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Denton, MD.

Born on September 1, 1943 in Ridgely, MD Emily was the daughter of Norman J. Welch & Emma Hulda Purnell Welch. She graduated in 1962 from Sudlersville High School & then worked on the family farm In the same year she married the love of her life, Richard C Shockley, Sr. She was a wife, SAHM, & homemaker. In the later 1970’s she became the Clerk for the Town’s of Goldsboro and Marydel, MD dedicating 30+ years.

Emily enjoyed reading romance novels, crossword puzzles, gardening, & front porch sittin’! She attended Goldsboro UMC, was a member to the local AARP group, assisted with local elections, & was in the GVFC Auxiliary for several years. Before his death she had a special friend, Roy, for many years and they loved to dine out.

In addition to her parents, Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, Sr., her son, Richard, Jr, & her brother Norman O. Welch.

Emily leaves behind her daughters, Bonnie Betton & Becky Elmendorf (Wes), her grandchildren, Eric, Andrew, Samantha, & Kevin, 3 great-grandchildren, & her sister, Phyllis Willard (Larry).

A private graveside service will be held at Greensboro Cemetary.
