Caroline Foundation Spotlight: His Hope Ministries

Posted

His Hope Ministries, based in Denton, is a Christ-centered organization working to end homelessness in the community through comprehensive services, resources, and programs for individuals and families affected by homelessness.
His Hope’s work is multi-fold. As far as meeting the need for transitional housing, they provide a seasonal shelter for unhoused individuals and families, currently host three seniors at their Senior Haven, and offer an Unaccompanied Youth and Young Adult program for individuals ages 18 to 25.

Behind the scenes, His Hope Ministries also provides financial assistance to qualifying community members facing eviction because of unpaid rent or the loss of utility services, and generally connects individuals and families with additional resources as needed, with the goal of showing “God’s love to each and every person who steps in our doors regardless of what’s going on in their lives.”

His Hope has received financial support from the Caroline Foundation in these efforts. His Hope’s Executive Director, Stephanie Johnson, explained that the Caroline Foundation grant will help fund ongoing operations and allow His Hope to continue serving Caroline County residents in times of need.

Unlike other grants, funds from the Caroline Foundation are unrestricted, meaning the money can go towards what the organization needs versus what grant providers want to see the money used for. “It's always nice to have some flexibility as other ideas and needs may arise that we can use them for,” Johnson said. These monies are currently being used to provide supplies necessary for the homeless shelter’s day-to-day operations and provide transportation or financial assistance to His Hope’s clients.

Johnson considers the work of His Hope an important part of community health. Some of the individuals they serve struggle with mental health challenges, and providing stability through shelter, financial assistance, and other support services can help alleviate some of the stressors their clients face. “In order for them to be physically and mentally okay, providing shelter and financial assistance allows them to focus on getting their lives back together,” she said.

For His Hope Ministries, receiving these flexible grant funds from the Caroline Foundation means being better prepared to respond to the changing needs of the people and families who turn to them for help.
