Mr. John George passed away unexpectedly at his home in Preston on Monday, October 19, 2026. He was 94 years old.
John was born on June 27, 1932 in Preston, Maryland, the son of the late James and Alberta Haynes George. John went to Jonestown School and later attended Lockerman School in Denton. Following his time in school, John entered the US Army and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1954. After his service in the US Army, John furthered his education by taking technology courses at Chesapeake College. He worked for several different local companies including Preston Ford and eventually retiring from Preston Trucking. Following retirement, he worked for Federalsburg Elementary School as the head of custodians. He was particularly known as a skilled barber which was a trade he practiced his entire life.
In his free time, John was a past league bowler. He was known as a good cook, and on Sundays during football season he would be cheering on the Baltimore Ravens. John belonged to the Masons Organization of Maryland and was a member of the American Legion in Easton, MD.
John was a jokester and loved to keep everyone laughing. We are sure to miss his smile.
John married the love of his life, Madaline, on August 4, 1956. Together they enjoyed 70 years devoted to one another. Sadly Madaline passed on August 2, 2026, and John missed her dearly. We take some consolation knowing that they are together once again.
Besides his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: David George, Lester George, Alfred George, James George Jr, Martha George, Elizabeth George, Estella George and Thomas George; and his nieces Johnetta Green and Patricia Cephas.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: Three Children Everick Bowens (Helen), Sandra Barnett (Lewis) and Cheryl George; Three Grandchildren Takenya Townsend, Jamal Bowens and Asia George; Two Great-Grandchildren Anthony Mosley and Jamal Bowens, Jr; bonus granddaughter Nicole Caudell; Two brothers Oscar George and Allen George; and a host of cousins, family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Union United Methodist Church on N. Main Street in Federalsburg. Burial will be private at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
