CCHS Joins Shelters Nationwide for Adventure Buddies Day

Posted

This Saturday, September 19, shelter dogs across the country will be trading their kennels for trails, car rides, pup cups and a few hours of simply getting to be dogs and some of Caroline County’s own shelter dogs will be joining them!

Caroline County Humane Society is teaming up with Best Friends Animal Society and shelters across the country to participate in National Adventure Buddies Day, a special day dedicated to getting shelter dogs out of their kennels and into their communities for an adventure.

The idea is simple: community members are matched with an adoptable CCHS dog and take their new buddy out for a few hours. An adventure might mean going for a walk or hitting a local trail, taking a car ride, stopping for a pup cup or even finding a quiet place to relax together.

For dogs living in a shelter, those few hours can mean a lot. Time outside the kennel gives them a chance to decompress, experience new things and show more of their personality away from the stress and excitement of the shelter environment. It also gives CCHS valuable information about how a dog behaves out in the community and, of course, creates some great photos and stories that can help potential adopters get to know them.

And you don't have to already be a CCHS volunteer to participate!

Adventure Buddies Day is open to community members, current CCHS volunteers and our regular dog walkers. Primary handlers must be at least 18 years old, and advance registration is required.

CCHS will provide the necessary supplies, guidelines and pickup and return times. Our Adventure Buddies provide the fun!

Space is limited based on the number of eligible dogs available. Registration is required in advance through CCHS.

We are excited to join Best Friends Animal Society and shelters nationwide for a day that reminds us that sometimes making a difference for a shelter animal doesn't require adopting or even making a long-term commitment.

Sometimes it starts with a leash, a few free hours and one really good adventure.
