Shirley Oline Midthune, 96, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on September 24, 2026, at The Residence at Eden Green in Denton, Maryland.,
Shirley was born in Esmond, North Dakota on November 6,1929 to George and Bertine Turner. She grew up in North Dakota, graduating from high school in Fargo. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and went on to work as an accountant for many years.
Shirley married Neil Midthune on June 16, 1950. They were married for 64 years before his death In 2014. Together they raised 4 children while living in various parts of the country. They retired to Cocoa Beach, Florida in 2000 where they spent 14 happy and active years. Throughout her life, nothing delighted her more than being with her family.
Shirley was preceded in death by husband Neil, infant daughter Joan, brothers Irvin, Bruce and Robert Turner, sister Maureen Boe and son-in-law Theodore Bryand.
Shirley is survived by her children Ann Keller (Curtis), Joan Bryand, Douglas Midthune (Sally) and Jill Midthune (Anthony); 6 grandchildren, Matia, Benjamin, Annie, Lucia, Theodore and Anthony; 3 great grandchildren, Paige, Callie, and Theo; and her brother William Turner as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
