38th Annual Strawberry Festival and 7th Annual 5K Fun Run and Walk

On Sunday, May 28, the Ridgely Lions Club will host the 38th Annual Strawberry Festival at Martin Sutton Memorial Park in Ridgely from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This annual event is the largest fundraiser for the Ridgely Lions Club. The Lions partner with many of the community’s volunteer and service organizations to make it one of Caroline County’s premier events. All proceeds raised by the Lions Club through the festival are used to support community service projects and local charities.

Activities get started early when the 7th Annual Strawberry Chase 5K Fun Run and Walk gets underway at 8 a.m. Sponsored this year by the Ridgely Lions Club with support and sponsorship from Advantage Rehab, Inc., the Caroline County Department of Recreation & Parks, Chincoteague Pony Rescue, Delmarva Business Network, Farmer John’s Produce, Ridgely Elementary School PTA, Joanne Shipley Designs, American Legion Caroline Post #29, the Meoli Companies, the Lions Clubs of Caroline County and the Kent Island & Queenstown Lions Clubs. All proceeds from the Strawberry Chase are donated to support the Maryland Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Caroline County Super Summer Day Camp. You can pre-register on-line at www.carolinerecreation.org for the Strawberry Chase 5K Run/Walk for $20 until May 26 . Registration forms can be downloaded at www.ridgelylions.org or on www.facebook/ridgelylionsclub. Mail the form with your payment to the Caroline County Recreation and Parks at 107 South 4th Street, Denton MD 21629. Make checks payable to: Caroline County Commissioners. After May 26, fees for all runners and walkers will be $25. Kids age 12 yrs and younger can register for $10. You can also register as a sleepwalker for $25 and support the Ronald McDonald House and Caroline Super Summer Camp from the comfort of your bed.

The Strawberry Festival kicks off at 9 a.m. with a non-denominational church service led by the Fish Locker Ministries. At 10 a.m., the festival gets into full swing with musical entertainment, food and craft vendors open for business and the children’s entertainment area opens. At noon, the Strawberry Festival Parade kicks off on Bell St. and ends at Martin Sutton Park. The afternoon continues with raffle drawings, awards for the best parade entries, and presentation of the 2017 Ridgely Lions scholarships. As part of the festivities the Town of Ridgely is also celebrating their 150th anniversary in 2017.
