Start St. Paddy’s Day Right with the Annual Rec & Park’s St. Paddy’s Day 5K/1Mile Fun Run

On St Paddy’s Day, Saturday, March 17th, join runners and walkers from across the mid-shore to celebrate your Irish spirit and dare to sport your Green! Register now for the annual St. Paddy’s Day 5K Run/Walk and save $5!

New this year the race coordinators have added a 1 Mile Fun Run so the whole family can participate! The race starts at 9 am at the Fretterd Community Center, 107 S. 4th Street, Denton. For the wee ones who want to run there is a Leprechaun Dash at 8:30 AM for runners ages 3–5 and every little leprechaun will be a winner. There will also be festival give-aways, pre-race crafts, face-painting, door prizes. You can even bring your Lucky Dog to pace you. Just remember to bring a leash and register in the Lucky Dog Category. Race participants will be encouraged along the course bag pipe and fiddle music!

New this year and included in every registration is All You Can Eat Green Pancakes after the race. Chesapeake Culinary Center will be serving green pancakes under the tent in front of the Fretterd Center. Don’t miss out on this Carb Fest!

Want to participate with the whole family or a group of friends? There’s an “Irish Tribe” option for the 5K. Groups can sign up for a reduced price and be eligible to win for Fastest, Slowest or the Middle of the Road Team Finishers, based on team averages.

Tim Bamforth from Seashore Striders provides finish line coordination and registration can be done on-line through Seashore Striders website at seashorestriders.com or by calling Caroline County Recreation & Parks. There will be awards for overall and Master Champion runners as well as the top three runners in each age group.

Register by March 3rd to guarantee your Tech Performance long sleeve tee or opt to save $5 and skip the memorial tee. Women’s cut shirts are available as well as Men’s Cut.

Proceeds from the event help kids in Caroline County participate in summer enrichment programs that their families might otherwise not be able to afford. Event production sponsors at the Pot of Gold level include: High Roads School, Smiles by Higgins & Holsinger, Board of Child Care, and Choptank Transport. Both WCEI/WINX and Caroline Review are media sponsors for the event.

Registration fees for the 5K are $25/now; $30 after March 3rd and $12 in advance and $17 after March 3rd for the 1 Mile Fun Run. Take a $5 discount for a No Shirt Discount. Register as a 5 member “Irish Ribe” by March 3rdth for $100. To register as a team submit individual registrations forms together and identify your team name. Run with your favorite four-legged companion in the 5K for $35 in advance/$40 after March 3rd and the Leprechaun Dash is $5 per participant.
