Events at Tuckahoe and Martinak State Parks

Tuckahoe and Martinak State Parks will be offering a variety of programs from leisurely walks and biking to paddling and zip lining. Caroline County Recreation and Parks, the Caroline County Family Y, and Adkins Arboretum will offer additional programs. These programs are designed to encourage everyone to go outdoors and exercise for the purpose of reducing chronic disease, strengthening bones and muscles, extending life and building stronger communities.

BIKE RIDES AND WORKSHOP
(Bring bike, helmet, water bottle and spare tube/ tools. Bikes can be rented in advance at Tuckahoe/Martinak by calling 410-820-1668. Rental free for Park RX holders)

Leisure Bike Ride: Enjoy an easy ride on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 PM, Martinak Park Office and Thursday, Tuckahoe Lake Pavilion.

Bike Workshop: Learn the basic of how to care and maintain a bike. July 8, 1-3 PM, Tuckahoe Lake Picnic Area.

Caroline Cycles: 25+ mile ride for experienced cyclist, no drop ride, on back roads. Cyclist must be able to ride 12 to 15 mph. July 15, 9 AM, Martinak Park Office.

DISC GOLF
Disc Golf 101: Learn how to play and develop your skills, Sundays, 4-5 PM, Tuckahoe Disc Golf Course. (Loaner discs are available.)

GUIDED WALKING AND HIKING SERIES
First Saturdays: Discover unique native habitats at Adkins. $5.00 for non-members, Free for members and Park RX holders.) Adkins Arboretum.

Martinak Family Walk: Bring the family for an evening scavenger hunt, meet an animal and other activities as we walk. Mondays, 6:30-7:30 PM, Martinak Park Office.

Tuckahoe Family Walk: Walk like the animals on the fitness trail near the lake. Thursdays, 5:00 –6:00 PM.

Walk it Out! Challenge yourself to go further and walk faster. Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:45–9:45 AM Martinak Amphitheatre.

Senior Stroll: Meet up with others to walk. Tuesday and Thursday, 10:30-11:30 AM, Martinak Park Office.

Lunch Time Walk: Take a mid-day break to walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 12:00-12:45 PM, Martinak Park Office.

Trails and Tails Walk: Bring your dog to walk the Tuckahoe Lake Trail. Meet at Lake Parking lot. Fridays, 9:00 AM and Martinak Nature Center on Friday evening at 5:30 PM.

Early Morning Walk: Explore your guide’s favorite trails, talk about animal tracks, birds, and plants. ($5.00 for non-members, free for members and Park RX holders.) July 12, 8:00-9:30 AM, Adkins Arboretum.

Dog Walk: Stroll the best paths while walking your dog. ($5.00 for non-members, Free for members and Park RX holders.) July 6, 9:00-10:00 AM, Adkins Arboretum.

Nature Walk: Come hear beautiful birdcalls and observe their habitats. July 26, 7:30-8:30 AM, Martinak Nature Center.

Night Hike: Bring family and friends to experience nature at night. Wednesdays, 8:30 PM, Martinak Nature Center.

Everybody Walk: Explore the diverse nature along the new trail. Walk two miles or more. Saturdays, 9:00 AM, Tuckahoe Park Office.

MEDITATIVE WALK AND YOGA ACTIVITIES
(Please bring yoga mats/towel and a water bottle)

Meditative Walk: Free your mind by walking contemplatively focusing on your breathing and intention. Sundays, 1:00-2:00 PM, Tuckahoe Lore of the Land Parking Lot.

Sunrise Yoga: Start your day energized! Jen from Recreation and Parks leading your yoga practice. July 10, 7:15-8:00 AM, Martinak Amphitheatre.

Family Yoga: Kick the weekend off right; relax as a family. June 14, 6:00-7:00 PM, Tuckahoe Lake Picnic Area. Bring a Mat or towel.

VOLLEYBALL
Beach Volleyball: Consider meeting up with friends or meet new friends for a game. Sundays, 5:00-6:00 PM, Tuckahoe Cherry Lane Pavilion.

BOOT CAMP AND MORNING STRETCH
Boot Camp: Don’t be afraid to get dirty as you get in shape on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM, Tuckahoe Lake. All levels, Age 16+ And at Martinak meet Savon from the Y on Saturday, 9:00 AM, Martinak Park Office.

Morning Stretch: Improve your flexibility, core development, and balance during this session. Tuesday and Thursdays 8:00-8:45 AM, Martinak Amphitheater. Bring a mat or towel.

CANOEING AND KAYAKING
(Please call for reservations at 410-820-1668. $15 per person. Free for Park Rx holders)

Canoeing: Learn how to canoe Watts Creek on this guided journey. Tuesday July 4, 2:00 PM, Martinak Boat Ramp.

Kayaking: Paddle the lake and head upstream as you learn about your surroundings. July 3, 2:00 PM Tuckahoe Lake Picnic Area.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Park Quest: Bring the family for a self-guided nature art activity as you explore the Lore of the Land trail at Tuckahoe. Bring pen or pencil.For more activities borrow the Quest backpack from the camp store at the entrance to the Electric Loop.

Jr. Rangers: For ages 7-12. Each program consists of activities, games and crafts.
Wednesdays 7:00 –8:30 PM, Martinak Nature Center. Call 410-820-1668 to register. Cost $30.00. Park Rx holders free.

Park Pals: For ages 4-6. The program features stories, snacks, games, and activities. Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 PM, Martinak Nature Center.Call 410-820-1668 to register. Cost $20. Park Rx holders free.

Fishing 101: Borrow poles and learn the basics of fishing. July 4, Martinak State Park Nature Center and Tuckahoe Lake, 10:00 AM—No license required.

Adventure Day Camps at Tuckahoe State Park
Join trained park staff as they promote safety and enjoyment in the beautiful outdoors. All camps are for youth ages 8-14.

Outdoor camps offered are archery, paddling, biking, wildlife exploring, fishing, and climbing challenges. Campers will receive a t-shirt, snacks, drinks and other goodies. All necessary equipment and supplies are provided. Campers should come prepared with proper clothing for the outdoors, as well as water bottles, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, appropriate footwear, etc.

The park reserves the right to cancel any programs that have less than six participants. Please call the park at 410-820-1668 for more information.

Four-day camps are $130 per person; Two-day camps are $40 per person. Those signing up for multiple camps, or multiple children in a family, will receive $5 off each additional camp. “Between Care” (11:30-12:30) will be offered for those attending two camps in one day; cost is $5 per day; bring a bag lunch. Junior Rangers
One of several efforts by the Maryland Park Service providing local youth (ages 7-12) with conservation information, environmental education and fun recreational experiences, Martinak State Park will host this popular program on Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m., 6/21-7/26. Each program consists of activities surrounding a specific topic, games, crafts, a snack and more. Upon completion of the program, each Jr. Ranger will receive a membership card, quest book, and badge at an awards ceremony and family campout (8/5-8/6 at Tuckahoe). The cost is $30 per child; advance registration is recommended.

Park Pals
This weekly program is geared for children 4-6 years old and features games, snacks, stories, and other fun nature related activities. Programs will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. at Martinak’s Nature Center, 6/21-7/26. Participants will earn a badge and other goodies at the awards ceremony and family campout that will be held in conjunction with the Jr. Rangers (8/5-8/6 at Tuckahoe). The cost is $20 per child; advance registration is required.
